Torrance, Calif.--You don't have to
speak German, be German or even
Southern Californian to know all
about Alpine Village Oktoberfest.
The
oldest, biggest
Oktoberfest event in Los Angeles
County serves up a simple formula.
Import a list of German bands that
perform a wide variety of authentic
Bavarian tunes, set up an outdoor
patio for the event so people can
enjoy the Southern California
weather, centrally locate yourself
near a major freeway, and offer
surrounding cultural amenities such
as German restaurants and shops to
allow guests to wander, dine and do
more.
As part of our
Oktoberfest events coverage,
we've attended several of the
year-round German/Bavarian
facilities in Southern California
that include The Phoenix Club in
Anaheim, Old World Village in
Huntington Beach and Alpine Village
in Torrance and can truthfully say
each offers its own unique brand of
Oktoberfest fun. With that in
mind, you may just want to see them
all. But don't exclude one of our
very favorites up in the San
Bernardino mountains east of L.A.
Big Bear Lake has a very organized
event with some great games and
competitions. (One of their
strong bier stein carrying
competitors actually went over to
Germany to compete, and win, the
contest in which ladies and girls
carry as many competition-sized mugs
filled with beer in two hands as
possible.)
Back at Alpine Village, the Southern
California weather is supreme in
Sept - October, making an outdoor
beer garden location for dancing and
bands the perfect spot--not too hot.
The crowds that attend these events,
especially on a weekend night, can
turn a room steamy. So Alpine gets
an "A" for its set up and elevated
dance floor for viewing shows such
as the dancers seen in the video
above.
The song and dance seen in the
Alpine Village Oktoberfest Video:

In München steht ein Hofbräuhaus:
Eins, zwei, ... g’suffa !
Da läuft so manches Fäßchen aus: Eins, zwei, ... g’suffa !
Da hat so manche braver Mann: Eins, zwei, ... g’suffa !
Gezeigt was er so vertragen kann.
Schon früh am Morgen fing er an,
Und spät am Abend kam er heraus,
So schön ist’s im Hofbräuhaus.

In Munich A Royal Brewery,
One, two, drink up!
That’s where many a barrel
of beer runs dry
One, two, drink up!
There many a good man
One two, drink up!
Has shown what he can take
Early in the morning he starts
drinking,
And late in the night he
comes home.
That is how nice it was in
the Royal Beer Brewery
