Long Beach Convention Center
is the only one of two coastal convention centers with ocean views
and harbor frontage (the other is San Diego.)
Long Beach Convention Center
is one of the smaller California convention centers, with at least
eight facilities larger in size. But what it lacks in meeting space
is well compensated in amenities nearby. An excellent public
transportation for your arrival at Long Beach Airport to getting
around the downtown where the convention center is located makes for
great meetings and events.
First, the facility is only
one of two sizeable properties on the waterfront (the other is
San Diego Convention Center--over three times larger.) The
waterfront properties make for beautiful accommodations during your
convention stay, and excellent family vacations for spouses and kids
who tag along with the mandate that they leave you alone while you
work.
Day trips to Catalina Island
don't require a car to access, nor do boat rides around the bay. If
there's something you desire to see and do, you can hop aboard the
Los Angeles MetroRail Blue Line that accesses downtown Los Angeles,
Hollywood & Vine and other attractions that you'll want to see.
Long Beach has attempted to
give you some attractions while visiting. Next to Catalina Island
day trips, The Aquarium of the Pacific
is just a stroll from the hotels surrounding the convention center.
And as far as hotels go, the on-site hotel is the Hyatt Regency Long
Beach. Across the street are some lovely properties,
Renaissance and Wyndham, with a Hilton a few blocks away. There are
also some affordable chain hotels a couple blocks walk from the
convention center.
And just across the bay
accessible by Water Taxi (costs around $1) is Queen Mary and
Carnival Cruises trips to Baja Mexico.
With a big part of the lure in
getting people to go to conventions being the surroundings, Long
Beach has done fabulous job in renovation a city over several
decades and today, you'd be lucky to have one of those high-rise
oceanfront townhomes they're building so abundantly as old buildings
are torn down.
Three exhibition halls
with close to 224,000 square feet of space can be utilized for all
types of conventions, tradeshows, consumer shows and special
events. On the front of the building is a plaque that states the
dedication of this facility was on October 20, 1994 when Beverly
O'Neill was mayor. Business Office: 562-436-3636
The convention also
includes Terrace Theater, a full production theater that seats
3,051. The Terrace Lobby contains a full glass front with a view of
the Terrace fountain. There is an ocean view on the West side of the
facility and a downtown cityscape view from the front of the
theater.
The third element of the
complex is
Long Beach Arena, a focal point to the dramatic Long Beach
skyline. Cylindric in shape, the outside is covered by the world’s
largest mural, “Planet Ocean”, which features an array of marine
life by renowned artist, Wyland. The Arena seats 13,500 and has
46,000 square feet of exhibit space. The Arena concourse has
29,000 square feet of exhibit space. The Arena Lobby has 19,000
square feet of additional space. Popular for conventions and
meetings, it also serves as home to a professional ice hockey team,
the Long Beach Ice Dogs.
