Lido Island is shown in
the aerial photographic image above at coordinates 4 top @ 4 ½ left.
It is a long thin island connected to land of the Newport/Balboa
peninsula at Lido Village.
Some of the
best views
of Lido Island in Newport Beach can be seen by the hundreds of flights that
take off daily or land at Orange County Airport. Seen in the photo as a thin,
pink island at the bottom-middle of the photograph, the red tile roof tops on
the island houses create this mass of color unlike any other portion of the
landscape that surrounds it.
Lido Island, one of a handful of islands that comprise Newport Beach's harbor
area, is mostly residential. A bridge to the island from Lido Village is the
main way in and out for automobile and foot traffic. But nearly everyone on the
island is geared toward boats and yachts, and most residents own some sort of
water vessel.
Tourists will not find activities
or shops on the island, though there's a beautiful hill top park
with grassy lawns and shade trees just past the bridge before
entering Lido Island from Lido Village.
