Green umbrella, green sky. The photo above was taken at
the foot of the hill of Montage Resort in Laguna Beach. The hotel
sits above public beaches that offer fantastic coves for sunbathing.
In our California beach travel
guide, we've included a chapter for photographers and others that
include travel pictures that have been modified. A few filter
plug-ins to your photo software can turn the ordinary into unusual.
In this image above taken at a
beach in Laguna Beach, the girl basks in the sun and shade of a
typical Southern California day. On vacation, she enjoys
sunbathing at the base of cliff accessible from the Montage Resort
by either a descending path, a wheelchair accessible ramp or a set
of steps. Many of Laguna Beach beaches are not so easily accessible
to those with handicaps but this beach is. As part of the agreement
for building the huge resort, the city required the beaches below
the property offer accessibility, parking, nice restrooms and as an
added bonus, a nonprofit community organization often has a staff
member at the beach educating the public about tidepools that exist
in the rocks.
We felt it was fitting to do
some sort of photo graphic for Laguna, the artists' village. With
nearly 100 years of art tradition that began with tourists from
nearby Los Angeles, the city is filled with styles of art that vary,
and include many paintings reflecting the local beaches that
inspire. Of all Orange County beaches, Laguna Beach is the prettiest
beach for artists to capture on canvas, we believe. For
strictly sand, the northern beaches such as Seal, Sunset, Huntington
and Newport have plenty of flat expanses. But starting at Newport's
Corona del Mar and extending through Laguna, the beaches include
rocks, cliffs, and water that even takes on an aqua shade in Laguna.
For your California vacation,
all the beaches are nice. But Laguna is special.
About the picture above. The
picture originally included lots of brown and blue. It was
flat and lacked highlights. By shifting color, and applying filtered
layers, then erasing them away from the girl in the red swimsuit and
the umbrella providing shade. The photo requires focus and a focal
point the eye can latch onto.
