In God We Trust decor on a Huntington
Harbour home is shown in a photo, and issues surrounding religious holidays are
discussed.
The decorated mansion shown in the holiday
picture above includes a cross, American Flag, and "In God We Trust". The
question many try to tackle as they prepare for the fund-raising Cruise of
Lights boat parade in Southern California is --how do we attract all faiths to
something that is clearly a religious holiday?
It has been a challenge in recent years
for the planners of this event to maintain participation, when so many moving to
this luxurious waterfront resort paradise are of different faiths. On one of the
recent trips around the harbor to listed to the script being written for the
annual boat parade (in existence over 40 years), was the comment that dark areas
of the harbor have come about because residents of other faiths don't care to
participate in the lighting of homes for this fund-raiser for school children.
The challenges must be great to get a
population to spend time and large sums of money to decorate when the effort
really only lasts for around 2 weeks of the Cruise of Lights boat tours held in
Huntington Harbour each December in Huntington Beach, California. There are no
solid answers to this situation.
Some of the most spectacularly-lit homes
come from folks in the media arts or movie industry. And one of our favorite
houses in the Sacramento area has become an annual attraction because the
computer techs put their lights to music with a computer program more advanced
(they claim) than the water light show at the Las Vegas Bellagio.
