Huntington Beach,
Calif. - Boutique of Lights is the annual crafts
fundraising event for the Huntington Harbour
Philharmonic annual effort to raise money for music
programs in the educational system and schools to
benefit children.
This event includes
over 20 unique artisan and crafters selling their wares
just in time for the Christmas holiday shopping.
What better gift than
something truly handmade, that supports a cause?
Original art, jewelry, gift items, ornaments and other
crafts and collectibles are sold at this event (usually
lasts two to three days).
The reincarnation of
an earlier effort, an art fair that was once held at
Huntington Harbour Mall during the holiday season, this
Boutique of Lights has expanded its offerings to the
public, taking advantage of the wide array of talents
that abound in Huntington Beach and Huntington Harbour.
One of the most
exclusive and active associations in a mostly non-gated
residential community set along the waterways and five
manmade islands of Huntington Harbour, the Huntington
Harbour Philharmonic has tirelessly volunteered for over
40 years to held bring enhanced education opportunities
to youth as the school system has removed many costly
programs that include teaching music.
While the average
income of residents in Huntington Beach is high, like
any Southern California city, there are many who cannot
afford a musical instrument or private lessons.
Huntington Harbour Philharmonic has stepped in to help
fill the gap between funding of programs and
opportunities for youth. They can't do it all, but
their efforts to help are the most significant private
source of funding for music in Huntington Beach and
locally.
In addition to the
crafts fair, Huntington Harbour Philharmonic sponsors an
annual lighted boat parade and
boat tour for the public to attend. The public can
purchase tickets to ride in yachts (donated for the
event by local owners), and see a narrated 45-minute
tour of the lighted waterways and channels of Huntington
Harbour before Christmas. In addition, a house
decorating contest is held. Open to the Habour
residents, plaques are awarded and placed in front of
the winning exterior decor that is honored.
