Huntington Beach, Calif..―Miss
Huntington Beach 2008, Cayce Crowder, and her court were honored at
Huntington Beach City Hall Memorial Rose Garden with a planting of
special rose. Attending the ceremony were Mayor Debbie Cook, Mayor Pro
Tem Keith Bohr and Council Members Joe Carchio and Gil Coerper. The
Huntington Beach Chamber of Commerce Women of Action, a volunteer group
that hosts the Miss Huntington Beach Beauty Pageant annually, organized
the rose garden event.
Attending from the Women of Action
were Jackie Judd, Carole Ann Wall, Elaine A. Craft, Jean Marsh and June
Dugmore. Chamber Ambassadors also attended the event, which was
filmed for the city's Surf City Highlights program broadcast on
television and Internet.
The 30 minute ceremony included
garden plaque with the 2008 queen's name, added to all the former
Huntington Beach queens. Speeches and presentations included
inspirational messages and thanks to volunteers in recognition of their
service.
Afterward a luncheon was held
inside the City Hall facilities and Queen Cayce Crowder presented single
stem roses to city and chamber officials and Women of Action members.
This annual event is held every
spring to honor the young women who win the title of Miss Huntington
Beach at a competition in February or March. Throughout the queen and
her court appear at events throughout the city such as the 4th of July
Parade and other community special events. The rose garden and plaque
are located on the lawns between Council Chambers and the Huntington
Beach Police Station adjacent to Park Street. Open to the public, you
can view the garden flowers and plaques throughout the year. |
