"Here Comes Santa Claus" meets "For unto us a child is born, lying in a manger".
This waterfront home is decorated with a life-size Santa and manger scene with
an artificial tree, and baby Jesus. The sign says "Happy Birthday Jesus".
Humor and religion combine to make a
potent image for those passing by to enjoy. The waterfront house or mansion
includes a huge, red sign that says, "Happy Birthday Jesus. For those seeking
the perfect old-fashioned family event or holiday tradition, religious and
joyful themes abound throughout California.
Christmas is a religious holiday for
Christians who celebrate symbolically the date, December 25. Dozens of
churches celebrate the holiday with special programs such as concerts and even
living nativities.
Whether celebrating this holiday or
not, many cultures that comprise California are no longer taking a back seat
when it comes to celebrating Christmas. In California's Little Saigon
you may discover that while very few are of Christian faith, many hold high
regard for the traditions that surround this holiday. Gift giving is one
tradition California Asians have particularly enjoyed...and they know that just
around the corner from Christmas comes their favorite celebration with New
Year's ceremonies, parades and events in the first or second week of January
during the Chinese New Year, which is not the same as the calendar New Year of
January 1.
