Guy getaways in Huntington Beach
get an 8 out of 10 for scenery
and night life in nearby OC
clubs.
We're young, we're hot and we've
got money to burn. Where
should guys travel to have a
good time? Huntington Beach is
one California beach option. It
offers a
pretty good chick quotient
(2 girls for every boy) says
Dean Torrence who sang a song
about it nearly 50 years ago.
Dean is happily married with
kids of his own, but for guys on
the prowl, Huntington Beach has
a surfing scene, beach scene,
and a couple bars you can check
out at night. The hottest place
for fun is 'Canes (Hurricanes)
on Main. It features DJ's, drink
nights and sports events.
Most clubbers get out and
explore the OC scene, heading to
Anaheim or L.A. for more night
life. The guy getaways
where a couple guys pack their
bags by grabbing some jeans,
trunks, razor, a couple shirts,
etc., has traditionally been the
driving trips to Mexico for the
weekend. Unfortunately,
places like Huntington Beach
don't offer that wild scene with
partying all night long. One
place just north of the border
that offers a little more fun is
San Diego. The border influence
is present at the beach clubs in
OB, Pacific Beach and Gaslamp
Quarters.
But for local trips from L.A.,
Central Coast and San Francisco,
Huntington Beach isn't a bad
place to book a hotel room and
catch an Angels game, a concert
or some sporting event such as
the annual paintball tournament.
Your very best shot at seeing
the hottest chicks is in the
summer--May through August.
The beach crowd dwindles a lot
after school starts. For 10+
Miami-style viewing of thongs
and bikinis, US Open of Surfing
in late July is the time to go.
The rest of the year, the pretty
girls are spread pretty thin, as
are most the beaches and crowds
who've returned to school and
jobs.
Huntington Beach guys getaways
are seasonally great, and
especially nice for surfers or
volleyball players who have
something lined up. Guys used to
come and stay in Huntington for
months on end, back when the
hostel was around. It's shut
down, and now the closest beach
hostels are in San Diego and
L.A. County.
