What in the heck will show up next at the Sunset Beach NO
Parade? How about the General Lee souped up Dodge Charger from the
Dukes of Hazard?
No Parade would be complete
without a selection of classic cars to strut their stuff or show off
their struts. The General Lee, a bright orange bodacious
super-charged Dodge Charger made famous in the Dukes of Hazzard
shows and movie is one automobile that gets heads turning.
Manufactured by Chrysler, many of the Generals sell around $150,000
to 200,000 range, but one auctioned car that was owned by actor John
Schneider who played Bo Duke in the show, reportedly sold for a
record $10 million in 2007. Helping finance additional films, the
automobile was used on the set of the TV show, along with numerous
other Generals.
"The Dukes of Hazzard" show was a weekly program with self-contained
episodes involving cousins who sought to undo the evil plans of the
powerful and corrupt J.D. "Boss" Hogg. There was at lease one car
chase scene per show, and the terrain covered included dirt roads in
a place called Hazzard County, Georgia. Each year nearly 200
General Lee cars attend a car rally and DukesFest in Nashville. A
survey performed several years ago found the public recognizes
General Lee as America's most popular TV or movie car.
The Sunset Beach General Lee
Number 01 participating automobile had no decorations to speak of,
but spoke for itself as a time capsule of color and memory for those
who remember one of America's favorite shows that held especially
strong appeal for guys.
