Fillmore Street Tree Lighting with LED Bulbs
San Francisco's Fillmore Street lights up the
holiday with a theme you'd not expect--energy efficiency! The sidewalk trees are
lit with the glow of LED lights.
Fillmore Street, where cutting-edge music, fashion and film come to life, holds
some of San Francisco's most famous shops and restaurants. This is the vibrant
district where jazz talents Louis Armstrong, Charlie Parker, Ella Fitzgerald,
Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Billie Holliday and celebrities Marilyn Monroe,
Clint Eastwood and Sammy Davis, Jr. enjoyed an atmosphere alive with energy. In
keeping with its innovative ways, this bright spot in the Bay Area is even brighter
this holiday season, thanks to 73,400 energy-saving LED lights.
It's hard to believe that the beautiful,
blue lights gracing Fillmore sidewalks and helping visitors, diners and holiday
shoppers step in style, are actually efficient, as well. Festive strings of
lights decorating the trees along the sidewalks of Fillmore Street were supplied
by energy-leader PG&E. In keeping with ecology themes, the company will
encourage the public to save money and energy with LED lights, integral to the annual Fillmore Street Holiday Stroll and Day of Jazz & Lights.
The holiday celebration, which includes live jazz
artists performing some weekeneds, also features great holiday specials and
trunk shows at many stores.
Fillmore will stay open until 9pm for
late-night shoppers on some Saturdays in December 2008.

Throughout the year Fillmore Street is a
sizzling spot to dine, shop and listen to jazz. Each year in July the Fillmore
Jazz Festival brings an all-star line up of artists to its clubs and music
venues such as Yoshi's, Boom Boom Room, Rasselas, Sheba Lounge, and
the well-known Fillmore Auditorium. Fillmore Jazz Festival, the largest free jazz event in the country,
is sponsored by Fillmore Merchants Association
every year on the weekend nearest the Fourth of July. They also host Fillmore
Springtime Stroll, the Fillmore Indian Summer Stroll and the Fillmore Holiday
Stroll, featuring special sales and live jazz.
Located between Post and Jackson west of
downtown, take Geary Blvd. west across Van Ness and turn right onto Fillmore
just after the Japantown tower. Street metered parking is seldom available, but there
are several parking lots that offer pay parking nearby. Bounded on the east by Japantown, on the south by the jazz /nightlife mecca Western Addition, and on
the north by mansions and bay views at Pacific Heights, shoppers enjoy spending
hours shopping, dining and then taking in some night life.
