Eureka Downtown Shopping District Historic Buildings, Eureka,
California
Eureka, California is a step back
in time, featuring neatly preserved Victorian buildings in the
downtown shopping district. Shopping in Eureka is also a step in
time with stores that are one-of-a-kind. Clothing, books, gifts,
dining and restaurants in mom & pop shops preserve the best of the
Northwest US seen in California's northern redwood coast region.
Cities from nearby Ferndale (Victorian village) to Arcata feature an
atmosphere all have these fantastic structures such as the shops,
homes, and public buildings that don't even look like the belong in
California. As a matter of fact, the houses are ideal for movie sets
that portray elsewhere in the U.S. and Eastern United States. So
charming and inviting is the mood set by these beautiful buildings,
the tempt the occasional traveler to drop everything to pack up and
move. Of course the region has weather that includes over 40 inches
of rain most years.
But if you don't mind that, you'll fall in love with Eureka. During
the California Gold Rush, gold prospectors were heard to say
"Eureka, we found it!" While they referred to gold, when you're in
Eureka, those words ring true. You find gold in this authentic city
by the bay. Eureka overlooks the Pacific Ocean.
