Anaheim, CA--If you have never been to Disneyland, or haven't been there lately, you may have forgotten what it's all about. Walt Disney sat on a bench with his kids and one day thought it would be great to create a place to entertain them with fantasy rides, and all the fun a child could imagine. And that pretty much sums up the mission statement Disneyland theme parks have adhered to throughout 50 plus years, billions of tourists & ticket sales, and an incredible global reach of theme parks stretching from Anaheim to the Pacific Rim and Europe.
An entire industry of Imagineering has grown, often leading the way for new innovations in entertainment.
What is undeniable about Disneyland attractions are the focus on children. As you enter the gates, if you don't own a baby stroller, you'll surely follow one or a stroller will guide your way as you pass through crowds into the fantasy park where parents with children are the unspoken but understood target audience lured into buying food, toys, t-shirts, and experiences such as character breakfasts, lunches and dinners.
For those without kids, the newest attractions at the park can be a little puzzling. A line will form as kids hope to meet the latest character, usually introduced through the latest Disney movie release.
The adult rides exist and are scattered throughout two theme parks in Anaheim. Sometimes a ride will launch at Disney World in Orlando, and years later will make its way back to the original park, home to tried & true attractions. Disney's Tower of Terror in California Adventure theme park is one such thrill ride that didn't get introduced to California for quite some time after the Florida launch.
Long & short--Disneyland is the original, traditional, family-oriented theme park with classic rides, characters, and a salting of new products and promotions.
One thing rings true-- if you are a kid, Disneyland immerses you in a colorful fantasy world filled with rides, candies, characters and things to touch around every bend. If you are NOT a kid, you quickly need to lighten up and get with the program after passing by those flower-filled beds of plants shaped like Mickey's head. The train station whistle toots that it is time to get on board; the trolley shuttle chugs and waits to fill up and drive you down Main Street to Sleeping Beauty Castle; and the horse-drawn carriage clippety-clops to whisk you away for a day of fun-filled day.
