Costa Mesa beaches -
Of all the beach vacations that
deserve a mention for just being close to a beach, Costa Mesa is among the top.
It sits on a hill overlooking Newport Beach and sports some of the best beach
views from apartments, condos, and homes that have that bare the city name,
Costa Mesa, or coastal table.
Costa Mesa Beach Vacations - Affordable
Vacations in Southern California
Costa Mesa has everything but the beach on
site. If they could have a tiny parcel of land and just squeeze it into the city
bounds from neighboring Newport or Huntington Beach, they'd be happy as clams.
But truth is, you can park on the hill above Pacific Coast Highway on a busy 4th
of July beach day and wander down to Balboa Peninsula in Newport Beach, but you
still don't get bragging rights to owning a beach in your town.
Do tourists care? What tourists like is
the affordable pricing on hotel accommodations just blocks from the beaches of
Newport Beach when they opt for a stay in Costa Mesa. Home to the Orange County
Fair, South Coast Plaza, ritzy Orange County Performing Arts Center and busy
Harbor Boulevard, Costa Mesa proudly claims itself the shopping destination,
pretty much the same boutiques and upscale stores you'll find in Beverly Hills
on Rodeo Drive. From time to time it has called itself a beach destination, and
truthfully, that's not a bad thing to hang you beach gear on.
In this
inland beach vacation Costa
Mesa mostly offers budget hotels. The travel, comfort and budget inns seem to be
the bulk of hotel offerings in the nearly-beach town. Around Orange County
Airport, the hotels go up in price and amenities at the Westin and Hilton. But
if those hotels were in Newport Beach they'd be charging more money, we suspect.
Costa Mesa's beach should be fictitiously
created in a public park to honor the beaches it loves. Locals and residents
look at Costa Mesa as the hidden secret of the coast, and they kind of like the
fact that tourists and outsiders aren't aware of expensive homes on hills
overlooking the Pacific Ocean, afternoon breezes that make this city feel like a
beach, and parking and access to the beach just one minute away.
When visiting and planning a trip, you'd
likely pick Costa Mesa's hotels as home base for trips to Disneyland, Universal
Studios Hollywood, Hollywood tours, Catalina boat rides, and even visits to
Legoland in Carlsbad or San Diego exploring. You can do just about anything in
Costa Mesa that you can do in Newport Beach vacations, but you can do a lot
more. While you may think that saving money isn't your greatest goal on a trip,
for those who could use the extra cash, do check out the Costa Mesa "beach"
hotels and decide for yourself. |
