Ceramics-centered Huntington Beach features ceramics
and crafts sold each week at an outdoor farmer's
market. But down the street five blocks on Main at
the Huntington Beach Art Center you may also see
arts, crafts and ceramics shown at the community art
gallery's annual exhibition, Centered on the Center.
In the picture
above you'll see a setting of one tall ceramics
piece surrounded by half a dozens smaller, similar
colors and shapes. The display is one of several
hundred that fill the art space annually in the HBAC
Centered on the Center event held usually beginning
in January.
Not by any
means the only non-juried art show in the region, it
is less recognized than the commercially successful
Laguna Beach Sawdust Festival featuring a variety of
arts, jewelry, crafts and clothing. Non-juried art
shows are, in fact, popular around the globe.
While the Huntington Beach event does not focus on
sales quite so much, the Laguna Beach Sawdust
Festival is one of the few non-juried art events to
maintain its own space in a hugely successful
venture that's been around for forty-plus years. The
Huntington Beach event exceeds 10 years, and still
is strong, increasing in popularity and attendance
each season.
If you happen
to be in town and have extra time, do stop by the
Huntington Beach Art Center and take a look at
either this non-juried art gallery exhibit or other
art events held throughout the year.
