Centered on
the Center annual art exhibit at Huntington Beach
Art Center shown in the picture above is a
non-juried art show in which anybody can
participate. Never had talent in painting but you
love to paint nevertheless? Well there's a show you
can participate in by signing up, paying a fee and
getting your work on over to the art venue.
Called Center
on the Center, many residents and budding artists
have shown their work at the Huntington Beach Art
Center more than once. With approximately 165 local
and regional artists displaying their original
creations, "Centered on the Center," the open-call
annual art exhibition at the gallery that runs from
January through mid-February each year, is partially
funded by the Huntington Beach Arts Foundation.
Artists are charged a fee for each work they enter
and are allowed wall space as long as it's not
filled yet. It offers an opportunity to see what
sort of art talent exists in the local region
according to the Center's Director, Kate Hoffman.
Over a decade
old, the show offers strategic challenges for those
responsible for displaying the pieces. Photos, still
life art, sculptures, oils, acrylics, chalk,
watercolors and other media are represented in this
broad spectrum show. While some find it entertaining
and enlightening, the nature of the event has also
invited mixed reviews from various media. For what
it's worth, it's free to see and among the walls are
many gems.
