Bolsa Chica Land Trust on Main Street
participate in the annual 4th of July Parade in Huntington Beach
Huntington Beach, Calif.―For
outside observers visiting beach communities in California such as
Huntington Beach, you'll be amazed that a city of a mere 200,000 would
have not one, but three nonprofit organizations focused on acreage of
land dedicated to migrating fowl.
One such organization, Bolsa Chica Land Trust, recently rose to the
challenge of raising funds to
build a walkbridge at the Bolsa Chica
Ecological Reserve.
For over a decade the Bolsa Chica
Land Trust has participated in the 4th of July Parade. In “The Spirit
of America”, the Land Trust marches along the parade route in downtown
Huntington Beach on Main Street, waving flags or batons and showing
their spirit.
Pictured above are some members of
the Bolsa Chica Land Trust, a proponent for preservation of wetlands.
One of the most endangered assets throughout the U.S.
wetland habitats
shrink annually at an alarming rate. In Huntington Beach, Bolsa
Chica Ecological Reserve is one such wetlands that's been jeopardized
several (if not many) times.
Wetlands and Mesas Tour is held on
the third Sunday of each month. This guided tour of the Bolsa Chica
wetlands and mesas is a two-hour tour beginning at 10 a.m. from the
South Ecological Reserve Parking Lot on Pacific Coast Highway. Admission
is free, wear comfortable shoes and sun protection, and be sure to bring
binoculars and a camera! For more information call (714) 964-8170.
A recent campaign and project,
Walk to the Wild Side walkbridge fundraiser, raised $75,000 for a new
walkbridge. A check was presented in Aug. 2007.
