Boat parades are anything but ordinary in
Huntington Harbour. When you drive by the multi-million dollar mansions in a
putzy, little $40,000 electric Duffy, it looks kind of funny. Never mind. Duffy
is the preferred commuter vehicle for the Harbour crowd.
Honestly, the Duffy, invented in nearby
Newport Beach, is ecologically friendly. There's no gas fumes to choke you one
your holiday boat tour around the Huntington Harbour. Our friends from the
Sunset Gondolas (see sidebar) tell us you need to be careful if you plan to rent
a boat for the Cruise of lights. The channel traffic can be frightful,
especially if you don't know what you are doing and it's your first time out.
So the idea of all this hullabaloo is to
support the local fundraising group, the Huntington Beach Philharmonic. Buying a
ticket to ride one of their yachts helps raise funds for the school kids to
learn music.
How sweet is that melody?
