Top Beaches with Hotels in California
Beaches with hotels in California are not quite as
abundant as our Florida counterparts, unfortunately. The good news is that what
our state does provide in hotels at California beaches will delight you with the
variety of options, and many luxury four to five diamond options.
Central Coast beach hotels,
for example, may seem like sleepers. But take a visit to the Ritz Carlton Half
Moon Bay to see our theory in action.
But we do the best we can
with what we've got. The pecking order in terms of numbers and quality goes
something like this, with the top 5 included first:
#1. San Diego - San Diego
beaches are the most popular beaches with
hotels in California. Numbering close to around 50 to 75 hotels around the San Diego
beaches and bays, beaches range from budget to top-of-the-line. San Diego beach
hotel offerings are growing and their quality increasing. San Diego clearly sets
the bar in California beach vacations!
#2. Los Angeles
beaches with hotels include Santa Monica, Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach,
Manhattan Beach, San Pedro, Rancho Palos Verdes, Malibu and Long Beach. While
this is a mighty list of beach destinations, the pickins' are not so massive.
Some cities have only one beach hotel, others have several, and only one city,
Santa Monica, has a fair number (around 20 ) that are beach close. Right on the
beach there are really only several, however. If you look at Los Angeles County
as one long beach, you could find maybe 40 hotels to beach or across the
street.
#3. Orange County
beaches with hotels number maybe 40 hotels. Laguna Beach has the most
beaches with hotels, numbering around 20 hotels and resorts either on or
across the street from a beach. In Laguna Beach you'll find your hotel either at
the beach or across the street. These are the only options currently. Pity the
poor person who must stay at the beach! Newport Beach has several hotels, as
does Dana Point, San Clemente, Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, Sunset Beach,
and Seal Beach. Combined, these cities provide around 20 additional beach
close hotels.
#4. San Luis
Obispo County beaches with hotels actually rival Orange County and may come out
on top as the numbers go. We figure around 16 in Pismo, Shell and Avila Beaches.
Add to that Morro Bay, San Simeon, Cambria (approx. 10 at Moonstone Beach)
and Cayucos and you're looking at around 40 hotels where you can easily
walk to the beach no more than a block, tops.
#5. Santa Barbara
has lots of hotels near the beach and what's great is that the city is
walking-friendly. There are also free electric shuttles that traverse State
Street and the waterfront, making everything quite accessible from most hotels.
You could easily figure 15 or more hotels at beaches or within a block distance
in Santa Barbara.
