Part of the holidays and Christmas celebrations at the
Southern California beaches include home decor. In Sunset Beach this
oceanfront house is adorned with a huge tree made of strings of
multi-colored Christmas lights.
Sunset Beach, California homes
are a mix of mansions, castles and cottages on or near the sand. And
when the holidays roll around, you'll find some nice decorations.
One or two houses really decorate in a big way, but for the most
part, the views of the ocean that nearly half the homes look upon,
top any sort of the artificial lighting. With that in mind, Sunset
Beach isn't the top place to visit for lighting effect.
For that, you may want to go
across the street to the Huntington Harbour with its
Christmas Boat Parade and 9 to 10-day
Cruise of Lights harbor lights tour.
Back at Sunset Beach there's a
reason they call their event the NO Parade. They have no harbor to
speak of, and there's just that mile-long stretch of houses, bars
and restaurants lining the streets. The town is unincorporated, in
fact, and sits in the County of Orange.
What it lacks in bays, Sunset
Beach makes up for in other ways with sunsets to take your breath
away.
The house above is one of the
properties sitting on the sand. From the street you can see a
big tree made from strings of lights shining in primary colors red,
orange, red, blue and green. Atop the tree is a red star, also made
of lights. And on the night we passed by during the NO Parade, a man
stood in the garage, just like so many residents do when they wish
to watch a community event going on. You can see the guy standing as
a silhouette, along with his SUV. His garage looks pretty neat and
clean, and is bathed in yellow light. He is but one of the many
locals who enjoy festivities from the comfort of their homes.
