Mad River Beach County Park
is both dog friendly and equine friendly. The official county
website states that because there is less manpower to operate
this park, it tends to be more rustic. There are no campsites in
this "day use only" trail system that doesn't permit bikes. With
no tent camping allowed, the park tends to be popular with
locals. It is an excellent place to take your dog. In addition
to trails for pets, there's also opportunity for
fires on the beach.
Directions: Located just 5 miles northwest of Arcata,
exit west on Guintoli Lane and follow signs. For more
