Arcata, California's
Hammond Trail in Humboldt County's coastal city of Arcata
demonstrates that the locals love pets, and are nature lovers as
well. Voted by locals as the best place to visit and use, there
are views of the Pacific Ocean that you can enjoy at the
southern end of the trail where Mad River can be seen.
Mad River pedestrian bridge,
Widow White Creek, Hiller Park, Clam Beach, and Trinidad Head
are some of the highlights of this hiking trail.
Hammond Trails is
horse-friendly. The trail is friendly and invites all sorts of
activities. In addition to walking dogs, there's hiking, biking
and equestrians along this portion of the California Coastal
Trail. (CCT stretches from Arcata Bottoms to Clam Beach County
Park in McKinleyville.)
Directions: Located between Arcata and McKinleyville.
Access the trail in Arcata from Hwy. 101 to Giuntoli Lane exit 2
miles north of Arcata; go west on Janes Road; follow signs to
Mad River Beach; park at the pedestrian bridge.
