What's Going on in Anaheim? Nothing Short of Renaissance
If you
cruise into Anaheim by car of by freeway access, many of the sights
you've seen years past continue to look familiar. It's difficult to
change the look and feel of freeways, much less complete neighborhoods,
isn't it? Well...maybe not.
Anaheim
is an example of a city that's seen remarkable change. Increasingly
pushing toward trends that seek to create neighborhood centers where
people can shop, live and work, Anaheim has moved forward in recent
years with projects to create that type of environment. Nowhere is the
change more evident than the epicenter of redevelopment, Disneyland!
The Magic
Kingdom, which celebrated 50 years of theme park memories some time ago,
hasn't had the luxury of a complete re-make. Socked in the center of
older neighborhoods with housing, strip malls, and traffic, what's
happening in this born-again theme park is nothing short of a miracle,
at least in our eyes. Remembering horrific traffic that brought Anaheim
to its knees several decades ago when the convention became too large to
handle, traffic can still be an issue during the larger events, but all
in all, the master plan for the city and Disney's theme park expansions
seems to be working rather well.
Downtown
Disney with anchor music venues such of House of Blues has helped create
additional attractions for Disneyland visitors and local residents, and
a new shopping mall will also go far to create additional dining and
shops for tourists and locals to get out and explore at Anaheim's latest
Garden Walk. One of our favorite chain restaurants, Anaheim - Garden
Walk, 321 W. Katella Ave., Anaheim, CA 92802. Call: (714) 507-2021,
is part of the mix of dining experiences long overdue in the Harbor
Boulevard region that surrounds Disneyland.
Of course
a Renaissance is not complete without new or updated hotels, as well. A
castle-themed hotel, the
Sheraton
Anaheim Hotel is one of the nice options. Renovated Anaheim
hotels include
Carousel Inn and Suites,
Holiday Inn Express and Ramada Limited Disneyland Area. Renovations are integral to Renaissance efforts, and you'll not find
a city experiencing more renovations on a constant basis than Anaheim.
