Agate Street
Beach in Laguna Beach is located close to Main Beach which is
surrounded by restaurants and shops, plus it offers many hotel options for California
weekend vacations or getaways.
As you reach the stairs
that descend to the beach below Agate Street, you'll see some
gorgeous houses with privileged ocean views. Oh, to be able to
afford one of those coastal abodes in Laguna Beach! Life would
be pretty special as you wake to the crashing surf and forever
ocean views. But most of us will never have the kind of money
required to pay the mortgage, much less the property tax on
homes along this road that sell in the millions of dollars. So
tourists and vacationers, why not enjoy the same beaches with a
greater appreciation than those who live at Agate Street? The
novelty must eventually wear off when you face the same endless
blue scene every day. And we, the visitors, certainly don't take
it for granted since we've never had it.
All
kidding aside, Agate Street Beach is a lovely beach tucked away
close to the action. Pacific Coast Highway is only a block away,
yet worlds apart in many way. Agate Street Beach is north of the
popular Pearl Street Beach and Arch Rock. If El Archo in Cabo
San Lucas comes to mind, this is a smaller version, but
maintains the same shape and principle.
The advantage to Agate
Street Beach in comparison to Pearl Street, which is closest to
the rock on the north side, is surfing is allowed at the reef
here. Black balled (not
allowed) between 12PM Noon and 5 PM each day through the summer months (June
15th-September 15th), there are other spots along the Laguna Coast to surf.
But for the busy afternoon hours, people get top billing and
avoid potential injuries from those flying boards. Then as the
locals say, when September rolls around, "we get our beaches
back." Laguna has approx.
25 neighborhood beaches.
In the map you can see a
hint of the coastal cliff.
