Monterey Beach Hotel Resort is
one of Monterey's great kids vacation hotels and resorts for many reasons.
The swimming pool is one.
Monterey Beach Hotel is popular with
parents and couples who want to sit in a protected area and soak up some
rays. But for the kids, the heated pool is so much warmer and more fun than
a dunk in the ocean on the other side of the hotel at the beach facing the
Pacific Ocean. The kid-friendly swimming pool sits on the east side of
the hotel, protected from the breezes that blow through this sometimes
wind-slept dunes location where the Monterey Beach Hotel (Resort) enjoys
spectacular views of the Monterey Bay as the only beachfront location for
several miles (7.8 miles to the north is Marina Dunes Resort located
next to protected sand dune habitat.)
The swimming pool is a decent size,
stretching the length of this building that takes advantage of its location.
Set off from Highway 1, both sides of the hotel offer serene views with the
pool side enjoying easy access to the swimming pool, of course.
Monterey Beach Resort Hotel is several
stories tall, offering elevator service or you can climb the stairs from the
beach to your room for a little exercise. The beach can be cool and
breezy and the ocean here is slightly cold. This Monterey Bay location
is part of Monterey Bay Marine Sanctuary which often enjoys views of
migrating whales passing through on their annual treks north and south. The
ocean currents from Alaska travel south and lose their effect around Point
Conception, measured as 50 nautical miles west of Santa Barbara. As a
result, the Southern California beaches have warmer water temperatures (the
air is usually about 10 degrees warmer, too) so Monterey makes good use of
its heated swimming pools.
You'll see kids frolicking along the
beach, building sandcastles and dipping their toes, and sometimes their
bodies into the ocean. But they don't usually stay in the water for long
periods of time.
