Hotel & Beaches
Balboa Bay Club (hotel prices)
1221 West Coast Highway,
Newport Beach, CA 92663
A man in shorts, crew shirt and
ballcap stands on a dock watching the activity that surrounds him at the
Balboa Bay Club beach. Children play at the water's edge as moms watch
from lawn chairs and beach chairs, making sure their charges remain
safe. And Next them are kayaks and yachts. Simply charming is the life
that exists in the THE OC's favorite harbor, Newport Harbor, where
Balboa Bay Club hotel resort enjoys lovely views to melt your cares
away. This beach and club is open to the public for overnight stays.
Dining and entertainment is included on the property, and Fashion Island
shopping mall is located just up the road a mile or two on the hill
overlooking the Newport bay and Pacific Ocean.
The hotel, itself, underwent a
renovation several years back. Though it was a timepiece of another era
until its re-do, the commanding bay views and folks seeking upscale
experiences wished for something more than dated decor and meeting
facilities that missed the mark when compared to nearby digs. As you
drive up to a valet service now, you absorb a look and feel that are
markedly different from the earlier versions of this hotel and club.
It's very nice, very enjoyable, and offers a finer experience, thanks to
stucco, marble, carpet, linens, beds and all the things needed to
refresh a dated concept and transform it into Wow!
Balboa
Bay Club is a resort hotel in Newport Beach where guests such as John Wayne,
Ronald and Nancy Reagan, Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, Natalie Wood, and
many more celebrities and diplomats have stayed. The only full-service
waterfront hotel in Newport Beach designed in the style of an Italian villa
features 160 rooms built on three levels. Travelers, honeymooners, business
executives and girlfriends on a getaway can enjoy the on-site dining, nearby
shopping at Fashion Island, beaches of Newport Beach and day trips to
Catalina Island.
A short 10 minute
drive to John Wayne/Orange County
Airport, named for the Western film actor who lived in Newport
Beach, Newport Beach is bounded by Laguna Beach, Costa Mesa and
Huntington Beach. Its communities include Corona del Mar and Balboa Island.
When visiting
Newport Beach, be sure to stop and have a cocktail or dine at the Balboa Bay
Club. Like the Hotel del Coronado, it exudes a history that you can't describe,
but feels very real.
Balboa Bay Club is seen in the map above in the upper left quadrant.
It faces Lido Isle, one of Newport
Beach's manmade islands.
