final
HUNTINGTON BEACH, CALIF. - Rachel Wacholder and
Elaine Youngs upset top seeds Misty May-Treanor
and Kerri Walsh Sunday in the final of the AVP
Huntington Beach Open.
Wacholder and Youngs won 21-15 and 21-16,
becoming the first team in more than two years
to sweep the 2004 Olympic Gold medalists in a
final.
It was the second win of the season for
second-seeded Wacholder and Youngs.
The pair also beat May-Treanor and Walsh at the
AVP Cincinnati Open in July. They are the only
team to beat May-Treanor and Walsh in an AVP
event this season.
Wacholder and Youngs, the Olympic bronze
medalists in 2004, are second in points in the
AVP Championship Series with 3870 points, behind
