Water activities include
swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, sailing, paddle boating, parasailing,
jet skiing and boat tours in the crystal clear water of the Avalon Bay
and surrounding island. The climate is mild and seldom gets above 85 degrees
in the summer and averages a comfortable 68 to 72 degrees with water temperatures
ranging between 55 to 67 degrees. The island
can be 10 to 15 degrees cooler in the winter
Motor boats, peddle boats, paddle boats and kayaks offer
opportunities for water fun. There are also boat and submarine tours of
the island and coves. Snorkel a marine preserve,
Lover's Cove, with an experienced guide during a 90 minute tour.
Included is a lesson on proper use of snorkeling equipment issued: mask
, snorkel, fins and wetsuit. Hotel prices usually
go down during the months of October through March and availability rises.
Fish food is provided for participants
to feed fish and witness feeding frenzies. Colorful plant and animal life
abounds in kelp forests and rocky reefs where lobsters, abalone,
octopus and Moray eels reside. Look at and learn about Calico bass,
Angel sharks, halibut and bat rays, to name a few. Guided Marine
Eco-Tours cost $35 per person. There are several snorkeling
companies.
