The dome-shaped Anaheim Convention Center
has been a landmark of the space age for decades. Now, there's another unique
architectural attraction that looks like a sweeping glass wave. Large, sleek and shiny, it
was built
to meet the demands of a hungry convention market. When major computer
and technology conventions immobilized the city several decades ago, it
became apparent that Anaheim Convention Center wasn't capable of providing
services and space for some larger conventions. Las Vegas certainly had
the space to build on and did so.
Still, Anaheim offers amenities not found in Las Vegas.
Disneyland is located directly across the street from the Convention Center,
the beach is just a 30 minute drive away and the weather is some of the
mildest and most suitable, any place on earth.
These ingredients combined with Disneyland expansion of
two additional theme parks makes the convention center a prime location
for events. Five new exhibits halls each offer a 10,000 person capacity.
A new 180-foot glass tower, 235,000 square feet of glass panels and one
million square feet of meeting and exhibit space are in use in the completed
phase two of a three part expansion.
For the millions of people who have attended an event at
the old Anaheim Convention Center, the new facilities are a pleasure.
Located conveniently next door are two hotel choices, the Hilton Towers
and the Anaheim Marriott. Both offer additional banquet and meeting
room facilities popular with smaller conventions and gatherings.
