AEbleskiver

You can buy hot, fresh AEbleskivers in
Solvang, California which is located in
Santa Barbara County. They are a delicacy, supposedly invented by some
Dane way back in history. They are a waffle or a pancake formed like
a tennis ball. The name makes people think that there are apples inside
which is correct- if you put apples inside. Everybody has their own favorite
recipe and way of serving them, depending from where in Denmark the recipe
came. You can find them served several different ways in Solvang, most
often with powdered sugar and raspberry jam on top.

At Danish Days in Solvang which is often referred to
as AEbleskiver Days, it has become a tradition for locals to set up their
giant size pans in the streets and serve AEbleskivers to those who come
to celebrate. Held in September, the annual event becomes increasingly
popular as word spreads.
If you don’t mind eating foods you can barely pronounce, then you’ll be
in for a pleasant surprise as you sample a sweet tasting, hot pastry made in
many shops in Solvang. Our personal take-- Aebleskiver tastes something
between a puffy pastry with as Southern-style crunchy, hush puppy crust, and
Danish flair that quite unique and appealing.
Solvang is the Central California coast tourist destination that some
think is a bit too touristy. Nevertheless, the city has some of the best
bakeries in the region, and is well worth a stop. We go there to get
aebleskivers, cakes, cookies, breads, and the red - sweet sauerkraut the
Germans call rotkraut. There are many delicious foods in Solvang and plenty
of wine sampling from the region’s finest wineries. Don’t hesitate to ignore
the negative reviews. Windmills and Aebleskivers are cool. Kids love them,
too!
