Claim Jumper Restaurant started in Los Alamitos, California. Large portions served from the freshest ingredients and savory flavors make this the perfect spot for a nice lunch or dinner, birthday celebration, anniversary or relaxing meal all by yourself. Happy hour discounts on pizza and a few other items are offered afternoons in the bar (saloon).

It was hard to please my grandmother when she used to visit us from Quincy, Ill. If we tried to treat her to nice meals out, she often preferred simpler faire, and didn't care for many of the Southern California restaurant choices. But one place she really liked was Claim Jumper. The food includes a lot of American faire such as chicken, ribs, steaks and even hamburgers. Many meals come with a baked potato steeped and dripping with butter, and the desserts are to die for. It is why Claim Jumper resonates across the board with diners of ages.

Founded in Alamitos, California over 30 years ago, the decor hasn't changed much during the time it's been around. The front entrance often sports a Gold Rush theme, and interiors feature huge Douglas Fir logs,  finished woods, natural rock and large fireplaces. The decor creates a feeling of comfort and warmth.

While the prices are mid-range (spend about $11 - 30 per person) for your meal, you get a lot of food and often will find yourself doggy bagging a meal. Most Claim Jumpers feature a salad bar which is priced high enough that you might as well order a meal and get the salad included, and wood-fired pizzas that are quite tasty. A favorite among the family and friends is the roasted chicken. The seasonings are delicious as is the preparation. The huge menu ranges from fresh baked pot pies to choice steak. All while your relishing a tasty meal, the huge desserts pass by and though you aren't hungry, you decide to share a dessert or two with your dining partners. The six-layer Motherlode chocolate cake is a monster piece that oozes with chocolate frosting, but the Jumper Mud Pie with mint chocolate ice cream, served with Heath Bar, hot fudge, whip cream and caramel topping is sinful.

Claim Jumper restaurants are open daily (except major holidays) for lunch and dinner, and most feature cocktails, beers on tap (including a Honey Blonde Claim Jumper brew).
