| Vacaville (not far for
the state capitol of Sacramento) embodies
Americana. An
historic town square next to a river is replete with signs of
other times. Yet when you visit, you get the sense that the
people here are hard-working, independent, fun-loving, and very
much into celebrating and seizing the moment. Take, for
instance, an annual celebration called
Vacaville Art, Wine
and Brew Festival.
Events throughout the year
wrap themselves like the beautiful holiday trees sold at
Vacaville
Festival of Trees fundraiser around music, dining, and even a bit of
alcoholic beverage. Most every event offers bands that play
jazzy, rock, contemporary, ethnic and even classical music. In
fact, the music schedule includes free concerts throughout the
summer, culminating in several big events where the music never
seems to stop. Those include the Vacaville Art, Wine & Brew
festival, and the Vacaville Jazz Festival, to name 2.
Locals have the inside
track on the happenings and events, while we tourists have to
plan our trips to make sure we can get a glimpse of how the town
celebrates life. While our editorial staff lucked into a weekend
celebration once when passing through the state of California
and just dropping by, we were surely hooked on the vibe that
emanates from this event-driven place.
Maybe you can blame it on the well-organized Vacaville Downtown
Business Improvement District with their excellent web site. Or
you can thank the city for its insight into what drives tourism
and stimulates the community to rise to an occasion. Investing
in its business community, its arts & cultural boards, its
fundraising organizations and the talents that come from
Vacaville such as musicians, actors and entertainers, the City
of Vacaville offers one of the best bets in California for
having a good time, while being hospitably welcomed to a place
that seems so nice, you really could pack up and move to
Vacaville, as its events throughout the year offer enough
entertainment for even the jaded city slickers!
