Oxnard
Parade of Lights Holiday Boat Parade Event
in Oxnard, California
December 12,
2009
Oxnard, CA --
44th Annual Parade of
Lights Channel Islands Harbor - Channel Islands Harbor (805)
985-4852. Time: 7 p.m. Free. channelislandharbor.com.
Enjoy a California coastal
holiday. Visitors can enjoy hundreds of thousands of light sparkle and
dance along the water's edge. Pre-parade activities take place during
the afternoon and include snow play for kids, strolling carolers,
horse-drawn carriages with sleigh bells, visits from Santa & Mrs. Claus
and much, much more. Parade may be viewed from parks and walkways that
line the route as well as from most Harbor restaurants.
Festivities throughout the day
leading into the boat parade event include the Santa to Sea Race at 8
a.m. in front of the Santa Claus off the 101 freeway and the Del Norte
exit in Oxnard. The Santa to the Sea run is an event sponsored by Garden
Acres Mutual Water Co., a non profit organization, which is helping to
raise money and collect toys for underprivileged children within Ventura
County. It's a Half Marathon and 4 Person Relay
36 tons of snow will fall at Channel Islands Harbor at 10:00 A.M. until
meltdown! Located at of the north end of Harborview Park adjacent to
Channel Islands Harbor Marina, this event is ideal for kids who've never
seen snow (many who live along the coast have not!)
Horse-Drawn Carriage Rides with sleigh bells from Noon to 5 p.m. pick up
and drop off at the north end of Harborview Park next to the Snow Area.
To add to Christmas merriment, strolling carolers, Santa & Mrs. Claus,
and holiday shopping along with the waterfront dining are just more fun
on this special day that seems to never end.
At Marine Emporium Landing (3600 S. Harbor Boulevard) there's an arts &
crafts boutique, food booths, live music, children’s games and
activities, bouncy house inflatables, face painting, water taxi rides
and much more!
The coolest event no often seen along the coast (in fact, this is the
only place we know that this exists) is the flyover of Santa and
his reindeer. They light across the sky, marking the beginning of the
parade at 7 p.m. This time-honored tradition is presented courtesy of
Aspen Helicopters.
You can view the parade both from the harbor, restaurants, and the
water. On land, you can watch it by bringing your lawn chairs, blankets
and warm clothes. Park along the walkways that line the route. The
Parade route begins in front of Peninsula Park and heads to the Main
Channel, turns at Hobie Beach, loops in front of the launch ramp then
heads back to Pacific Corinthian Yacht Club and repeats the route for
second run.
Channel Island Harbor Water Taxi Holiday Lights on the Water can be seen
on the Water Taxi.
