Del Mar, California - Surf meets Turf
Del Mar's San Diego County Fair and
Fairgrounds features one of the most active fairgrounds in
California. Because of its near ocean location, all sorts of events
happen throughout the year. Beautiful weather, history of the
Hollywood crowd that attends the horse races annually, and the
wealth of talent in the region all make ingredients for a part
urban, part country fair that has one of the longest runs of any
county fair in the nation.
The fair offers the usual
stuff--carnival midway and new, thrill rides, kiddie rides that
offer gentle fun, and contests and community events from clubs.
Contests include crafts, art, and even livestock judging and ribbon
awards.
Animals are always a part of
the fair experience, as are the musical shows. Held on small stages,
and larger venues with headliners, you have all day and night to
wash down the fun with sudsy soda, lemonade, adults can sample beer
and wine, and all can dine on tons of BBQ, hot dogs, roasted corn,
food on a stick, food in a bun, and food in a tortilla.
San Diego County Fair costs
around $7-15 admission.
