Sunset Beach is
known for its windsurfing shown in the picture
above.
While nearby Huntington
Beach prohibits the sport in most locations due to
the crowds, Sunset Beach is windsurf friendly.
With a windsurf shop located across the street on
Pacific Coast Highway, visitors can rent equipment
and be on their way to this challenging sports in
just a half-hour or so.
Late afternoons
are extremely popular for windsurfing in Sunset
Beach. You'll notice the colorful sails whipped into
the wind as the rider struggles to command his craft
and get it going.
Pictured above is
the late afternoon mustard sky, a color created by
the sun's low position. The colors of the landscape
toward Catalina Island are very unusual in Sunset
Beach. Sunset Beach must be named for its sunsets,
however. They offer spectacular displays of red,
orange, purple, pink, blue and gray.
Sunset Beach
California (not to be confused with Sunset Beach,
Hawaii, is located in Southern California's County
of Orange. Sandwiched between Huntington Beach,
Huntington Harbour, Surfside and the Seal Beach
Naval Weapons Station, Sunset Beach is comprised of
residential properties usually on the sand or no
more than a block away from the beach. Lifeguard
services and other community services are
contracted. There's a volunteer Fire Department and
many community activities throughout the year,
including a Fireman's Ball to raise money for the
fire protection effort.
Where to stay
when partaking of a sports vacation at Sunset Beach
is up to you. But Sunset Beach offers three hotels,
including a
Best Western on the Sunset Island bay, a
Ramada Ocean Front at the beach, and a pink
hotel called
Sanatra Inn, that tourists really like for
its beach location and price.
